The basic mission of Finnish universities is to conduct scientific research and provide higher education based on research. University education provides broad competence and knowledge for employment in a wide variety of positions.
Finnish universities offer the following studies in English:
- Bachelor’s degree programmes
- Master’s degree programmes
- Exchange studies
- Postgraduate (Licentiate and doctoral) studies
- Continuing education
- Open University studies
Finnish universities do not charge tuition fees for degree studies, but students must pay the costs of their housing and meals and any other expenses. Non-Finnish students are entitled to financial aid provided by the Finnish State if they live in Finland on a permanent basis for a purpose other than studying.
